New Actions for Selected Text
Guest Mode: Try it out
Select some text. You can now do a quick search using the default search provider (Long tap menu) or find the same text in other locations on the page (Menu > Find in Page)
The core parts of guest mode have landed in Nightly.
Use guest mode to quickly switch Firefox into a fresh new profile. Then hand your tablet or phone to a friend so they can check email or post to Twitter/Facebook. Once they’re finished, leave guest mode and Firefox switches back to your profile.
With guest mode, you can avoid having friends and family bumping into each other’s online accounts and data. We’ll be adding some finishing touches soon, and have some interesting plans for the feature in the future.
We landed a neat new feature recently in Firefox, called Super Toast. It’s great for those times where you get notified of an action completing, but you might want to take an additional action.
The first use of Super Toast is when adding a bookmark. Instead of just telling you the bookmark was added, you now have the option of doing more with the new bookmark:
Tap on “Options” and you can edit parts of the new bookmark or add the new bookmark to your Android home screen:
We have a few more use cases for Super Toast, so be on the look out.
Firefox Tip: Adding Shortcuts to Home Screen
Quick Share remembers your commonly used sharing application and displays it on the menu to make sharing even easier. Just a quick tap on the icon to share the web page.
The fastest way to open a favorite webpage is by using a shortcut on your Android home screen. You can add a home screen shortcut from inside Firefox. The “Add to Home Screen” context menu action can be found on several menus:
- Long tap on the URL toolbar
- Long tap on the Top Sites, Bookmarks or History pages
Just Landed: Switch to Tab
Showing Page URL in Toolbar
Already got the tab open? Just quickly switch to it!
Firefox for Android on Yandex Store
Firefox for Android has always shown the page title in the toolbar. Many people like this, but a growing group of vocal voices would rather see the page URL in the toolbar. Seeing the URL can help confirm you are actually on the real page and not being phished.
Fennec Nightly adds support for showing the URL, with domain highlighting.
To activate, go to Settings> Title bar > Show page address
Search Providers: Changing the Default
You can install Firefox from the Yandex Store.
When you type a non-URL into Firefox, we search for the terms using the default search provider. You can now change the default provider.
